Au-del\u00e0 des enjeux sociaux et politiques soulev\u00e9s par l\u2019\u0153uvre, il en ressort une participation critique \u00e0 l\u2019acte d\u2019\u00e9dition, \u00e0 la construction de diff\u00e9rents sens \u00e0 partir de m\u00eames \u00e9l\u00e9ments visuels et textuels.<\/p><h4>Mot de l\u2019auteur<\/h4><p>D\u2019avril \u00e0 ao\u00fbt 2020, en comparaison avec la m\u00eame p\u00e9riode en 2019, il y a eu une chute de 95% des entr\u00e9es en territoire canadien par voie terrestre &#8211; tous types de voyageurs confondus. C\u2019est un mur invisible, et pourtant bien concret.<\/p><p>Ici, il n\u2019y a pas si longtemps, les voisins canadiens et am\u00e9ricains se connaissaient par leur pr\u00e9nom, prenaient des verres ensemble, partageaient des terres, passaient la fronti\u00e8re en saluant le douanier sans m\u00eame arr\u00eater la voiture. Plus maintenant.<\/p><p>D\u00e9j\u00e0 en 2001, apr\u00e8s le 11 septembre, la relation s\u2019est rapidement \u00e9rod\u00e9e avec un changement de ton s\u00e9curitaire aux points de passage. En 2010, la nouvelle n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 du passeport pour traverser a continu\u00e9 \u00e0 compliquer la cohabitation. De plus, depuis avril 2020, le Canada les refoule imm\u00e9diatement aux \u00c9tats-Unis, \u00e0 l\u2019encontre du principe de base du droit d\u2019asile, un pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent inqui\u00e9tant.<\/p><p>\u00c0 l\u2019automne 2020, en r\u00e9sidence au centre Ad\u00e9lard \u00e0 Frelighsburg, j\u2019ai d\u00e9but\u00e9 la documentation d\u2019une courte section de fronti\u00e8re qui longe le 45e parall\u00e8le, entre les lacs Memphr\u00e9magog et Champlain, en territoire traditionnel non c\u00e9d\u00e9 des Ab\u00e9nakis. Ici la fronti\u00e8re est arbitraire, ne s\u2019annonce pas, s\u2019affiche peu, elle y est souvent peu ou pas visible : chemins devenus cul-de-sac, champs de soya, cours arri\u00e8re de r\u00e9sidents, for\u00eats et vergers, cours d\u2019eau indisciplin\u00e9s. On avance \u00e0 t\u00e2tons pour la trouver, avec un \u00e9trange sentiment de culpabilit\u00e9, cherchant nerveusement les signes discrets du changement de pays.<\/p><p>\u00c0 chaque retour \u00e0 l\u2019atelier, je devais m\u2019empresser de tracer un carr\u00e9 noir sur la photographie, pour me rappeler o\u00f9 \u00e9tait la fronti\u00e8re, tel un Post-it tridimensionnel. Ce geste simple et pr\u00e9cis &#8211; r\u00e9p\u00e9titif et administratif- transforme accidentellement, mais significativement le document. L\u2019\u00e9cran sanitaire, politique, social et humanitaire se dresse sto\u00efque dans le paysage tranquille. visuel. Son travail s\u2019articule autour des enjeux de d\u00e9veloppement, des traumatismes, de la migration et des r\u00e9alit\u00e9s g\u00e9ographiques complexes, incluant les impacts des changements climatiques. Sa pratique artistique conjugue image fixe, histoires orales, vid\u00e9o et \u00e9l\u00e9ments immersifs qui conf\u00e8rent \u00e0 ses projets une dimension tant humaniste qu\u2019esth\u00e9tique. Ses oeuvres informent tout en questionnant l\u2019acte de documentation et de repr\u00e9sentation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Michel Huneault d\u00e9tient une ma\u00eetrise de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Californie \u00e0 Berkeley, o\u00f9 il fut Rotary Peace Fellow, se penchant sur le r\u00f4le de la m\u00e9moire collective \u00e0 la suite d\u2019un traumatisme de grande ampleur. Avant de se consacrer \u00e0 la photographie en 2008, il a travaill\u00e9 plus d\u2019une dizaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es en d\u00e9veloppement international.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>En 2015, son travail sur la trag\u00e9die de Lac-M\u00e9gantic re\u00e7oit en le prix Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor, puis para\u00eet l\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante sous le titre La longue nuit de M\u00e9gantic chez l\u2019\u00e9diteur n\u00e9erlandais Schilt. En 2016, la bourse Travers lui permet d\u2019approfondir ses recherches sur les enjeux migratoires \u00e0 travers cinq pays, en collaboration avec leurs diasporas au Canada et leurs familles dans leurs pays d\u2019origine. En 2018, il a adapt\u00e9 Roxham \u2013 son projet visuel et sonore portant sur les passages de demandeurs d\u2019asile en provenance des \u00c9tats-Unis vers le Canada \u2013 en une exp\u00e9rience de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 virtuelle avec l\u2019Office national du film du Canada.
