Les artistes ont propos\u00e9 une s\u00e9rie d&rsquo;\u0153uvres g\u00e9n\u00e9ratives de r\u00e9troaction vid\u00e9o (feedback) et de distorsion analogique qui exploraient la dynamique des fluides, la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de motifs et l&rsquo;interactivit\u00e9. L&rsquo;installation connectait une diversit\u00e9 d&rsquo;appareils interd\u00e9pendants afin de g\u00e9n\u00e9rer de nouvelles formes et interpr\u00e9tations \u00e9chappant \u00e0 leur contr\u00f4le. Le traitement de la vid\u00e9o en temps r\u00e9el, le d\u00e9tournement de la technologie et l&rsquo;exploitation des limites techniques sont au c\u0153ur de la d\u00e9marche de Rob Feulner et Sam Meech.<\/p><p>Cette installation comprend des \u0153uvres vid\u00e9o et interactives d\u00e9j\u00e0 expos\u00e9es par les artistes ainsi que le r\u00e9sultat d&rsquo;exp\u00e9riences r\u00e9centes de r\u00e9troaction vid\u00e9o. Les artistes utilisent des syst\u00e8mes non lin\u00e9aires qui g\u00e9n\u00e8rent de l&rsquo;ordre et du chaos, transformant les artefacts vid\u00e9o en leur donnant parfois des mouvements naturels, comme l&rsquo;oscillation de l&rsquo;eau. Les \u0153uvres du corpus original des artistes sont ici enchev\u00eatr\u00e9es \u00e0 travers des syst\u00e8mes interm\u00e9di\u00e9s qui s&rsquo;influencent mutuellement, chaque \u0153uvre \u00e9tant affect\u00e9e et m\u00e9diatis\u00e9e par les autres, fa\u00e7onnant et modelant constamment l&rsquo;installation.<\/p><p>Le dispositif multicanal pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 dans la vitrine de TOPO s&rsquo;inscrit en opposition \u00e0 la notion de \u00ab formes interm\u00e9di\u00e9es stables \u00bb qui r\u00e9f\u00e8re \u00e0 des \u0153uvres qui se d\u00e9veloppent par it\u00e9ration, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire par des processus de programmation qui combinent une part d&rsquo;exp\u00e9rimentation et de r\u00e9sultats pr\u00e9visibles en vue d&rsquo;atteindre un objectif artistique d\u00e9fini. Plusieurs \u0153uvres r\u00e9alis\u00e9es pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment par Feulner et Meech se conforment \u00e0 cette notion. Elles sont n\u00e9es de l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rimentation, mais finalement cristallis\u00e9es dans un processus m\u00e9diatique fig\u00e9 pour des expositions.<\/p><p>Dans cette exposition, en proposant plut\u00f4t des formes instables et interm\u00e9di\u00e9es, Feulner et Meech cherchent \u00e0 \u00e9tendre le potentiel d&rsquo;\u00e9chec. L&rsquo;interconnexion exploratoire d&rsquo;appareils technologiques pour g\u00e9n\u00e9rer des r\u00e9sultats impr\u00e9visibles multiplie les possibilit\u00e9s de heurts ou d&rsquo;harmonies nouvelles. Ce remix peut cr\u00e9er de nouvelles dynamiques et g\u00e9n\u00e9rer de nouveaux mod\u00e8les de comportement coop\u00e9ratif.<\/p><p>Les artistes utilisent une combinaison de traitement analogique, de saisie par cam\u00e9ra en direct, de projection num\u00e9rique et de conception interactive (\u00e0 l&rsquo;aide du logiciel Isadora). Un set de lumi\u00e8res DEL est aussi programm\u00e9 pour r\u00e9agir avec les \u0153uvres dans l&rsquo;espace.<\/p><p>La remise en sc\u00e8ne de l&rsquo;art num\u00e9rique s&rsquo;av\u00e8re souvent difficile et, dans ce cas, l&rsquo;intention est d&rsquo;inverser l&rsquo;ing\u00e9nierie des \u0153uvres originales des artistes afin de les pirater ensemble. Les artistes savent que certains \u00e9l\u00e9ments de l&rsquo;installation ne fonctionneront pas comme pr\u00e9vu, mais cela ne signifie pas qu&rsquo;ils ne \u00ab fonctionnent \u00bb pas. Ils devront certainement se rendre sur place durant l&rsquo;exposition pour ajuster des param\u00e8tres, les angles de retour des cam\u00e9ras, remplacer des t\u00e9l\u00e9viseurs d\u00e9fectueux ou contourner des bogues logiciels. Au final, les distorsions importent peu, les feuilles mortes font un excellent compost et les pi\u00e8ces d\u00e9tach\u00e9es construisent des machines.<\/p><p>Comme les flux vid\u00e9o s&rsquo;influencent mutuellement dans leur forme m\u00eame, la collaboration artistique de Feulner et Meech se contamine r\u00e9ciproquement. Leur collaboration influe \u00e0 la fois sur leur esth\u00e9tique et leur mode de production. Unstable Intermediated Forms les incite \u00e0 sortir des acquis pour \u00e9largir leur champ d&rsquo;exploration.<\/p><blockquote><p><em>On rentrera dans une autre \u00e8re d\u2019Internet, parce que Il s\u2019int\u00e9resse aux processus hybrides combinant le num\u00e9rique et l\u2019analogique dans sa cr\u00e9ation et en performance, par le biais d\u2019\u0153uvres ludiques qui jouent sur la texture, le motif, la r\u00e9cursivit\u00e9 et la translation. Il pratique l\u2019art du pixel, il a tricot\u00e9 \u00e0 la machine des animations de chevaux en stop motion, g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 de la po\u00e9sie \u00e0 partir de vieux titres vid\u00e9o et coul\u00e9 des trains miniatures dans du b\u00e9ton pour cr\u00e9er des projections de mapping apocalyptiques.\r\n\r\nDans sa pratique r\u00e9cente, il explore la r\u00e9troaction vid\u00e9o optique dans des installations num\u00e9riques interactives \u2013 une approche d\u00e9crite dans son m\u00e9moire de ma\u00eetrise en arts cr\u00e9ation intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Video in the Abyss : In the context of the digital, is video feedback still useful as an approach to making art \u00bb. Deux \u0153uvres qui en r\u00e9sultent, Chroma Culture et Portals, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 diffus\u00e9es largement au Royaume-Uni et s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9es pour le prix Lumen 2019 pour l\u2019art et la technologie. Chroma Culture a \u00e9galement remport\u00e9 le prix ALIFE Inspired Art au festival ALIFE 2020. Les deux \u0153uvres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 adapt\u00e9es et d\u00e9construites dans le cadre de cette exposition.\r\n\r\nIl aime collaborer avec le public pour d\u00e9velopper des projets qui permettent aux gens de s\u2019impliquer dans la technologie et les processus cr\u00e9atifs.
